Matsumoto Castle
The origin of Matsumoto Castle goes back to Fukashi Castle, which was built in the Eisho Era of the Sengoku period, and is the oldest existing five structure-six story castle in Japan and was designated as National Treasures. The contrast between the black and white colors is stunning against the Alps mountains. The combination of the main castle tower and the Tatsumitsuke and Tsukimi watchtowers built in the Taihei-era is called a “composite style keep” and symbolizes the different periods of time. This interlocking composite style keep is unique to Matsumoto Castle.
